Cult Luxury's Creative Director, Liam Mojique Legault, challenged accessories stereotypes with his inaugural spring 23 collection titled "FVCK GLAMOUR" at Fashion Week Brooklyn last October. The collection creatively styled silk scarves, bandanas, and shawls as unique and bold statement pieces draped over the body, resulting in breathtaking looks. The collection was produced by New York fixtures David Hand and Briy Gilgeous, both well-known in the fashion industry.
David Hand landed his very first runway show with Fashion Week Brooklyn in 2017 and has since become a fixture of FWBK, working as an emcee, casting manager, runway coach, model curator, and producer. Briy Gilgeous, on the other hand, has walked runways from DC to NYC to Paris for over a decade and is known for her work on the Emmy-award-winning series POSE on fX.
When David and Briy were asked about their interpretation of "FVCK GLAMOUR," they explained that the collection is about dismantling the classist, exclusive, and supremacist fashion and luxury culture. By showcasing historically luxurious items on a diverse group of models who represent black, brown, older, non-binary, and queer inclusivity, "FVCK GLAMOUR" aims to empower and amplify the voices of marginalized communities.
CL's goal was to create an uplifting fusion of design and activism that highlights the impact of mental health on our youth. The collection challenges the notion of unattainable body images perpetuated on social media and aims to promote self-love and acceptance for all. Legault, the Canadian designer and Creative Director of Cult Luxury, explained, "Although CL exists in the glamour industry, we are well aware of the impacts that fashion has on our most inspired and creative future generations."
In conclusion, Cult Luxury's "FVCK GLAMOUR" collection challenges traditional fashion norms and celebrates inclusivity and self-love. By creating a collection that embraces diversity and challenges societal beauty standards, Cult Luxury is making a bold statement in the fashion industry.
and that’s a wrap!.
